Field Trip Reports

Cache Creek Update

We got a track on everything with the snowmobile and roller last weekend and snowshoed and pulled the human grooming sled too.  Right now the trails on the map above are packed and usable on foot, snowshoe, fat bike, or skis.  Additionally with several weeks of high pressure many of the ungroomed trails are packed in from other trail users.  All of the closures and leash zones begin today, December 1, but trails outside of that should be in good shape until the next snow.

Thanks for the update and your hard work Chris O.!

Phelps Lake – GTNP Classic XC Tour

I toured to Phelps Lake this weekend and there were a number of dogs, off leash and people walking on the ski track. -K.S.

Reminder to dog owners: In GTNP, dogs are only allowed on-leash at all times, and only on Park roads (Moose-Wilson Road; Teton Park Road) not side trails.

Working on the Trails!
When the mega snow event hit the valley around the 15th of the month it looked like fire mitigation might be done for the year.  Dry and sunny weather for the past couple of weeks has once again made burning brush piles a possibility, allowing the grooming department to “toast” some piles in the Son of Gutflop area today in preparation for its eventual grooming.

No Grooming Today
Last Updated: 11/17

Stilton has been rolled and should ski ok albeit very soft. All other valley trails still need more snow after yesterday’s melt. The levee, Game, and Cache are user packed and should classic ski just fine. No other grooming will happen until we get more snow.

Teton Pines Nordic

We will have skiing available but be prepared for early season conditions. Snow coverage is thin in some areas. We hope to be able to remain open for skiing until we receive more snow, but the forecast is looking pretty sunny over the next 10 days.

Alta Track

Grooming Schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, & Sunday
Last Updated: 11/26
Skate: Set | Classic: Not Set
The south and middle loops are groomed for skating. Probably about 3 or 4k total. North loops are not set. It’s thin but not bad. Some grass poking up here and there. We have a new loop out there but you will need to sidestep through the ditch to get to it. Still lots of weeds on that one. Might want to wait for more snow to give it a try.

It is good to have snow in the Valley! We are monitoring the forecast and working hard to get the grooming equipment ready for action. We plan to begin the scheduled grooming season on December 1st. There is a chance we might be able to get things groomed ahead of schedule, so stay tuned.
